welcome to my website
Happy days ... .

I am an Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and an Adjunct Professor of Computer Science and Operations Research at the North Dakota State University (NDSU). I also am an Adjunct Professor of Computer Science at the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), Pakistan.

I am the Director of the NDSU-CIIT Green Computing and Communications Laboratory.

I received my PhD (Computer Science) from the University of Texas and BS (Computer Systems Engineering) from the GIK Institute (Pakistan) in 2007 and 1999, respectively.

My research interests are:

  • sustainable computing (high and low level {data, task, and communications} schedulers, workflow managers, and application-level dynamic fine-tuning)

  • social networking (disaster management, search and rescue, classroom instructional use, and malicious behavior detection)

  • robust backbone networks for cyber-infrastructures (resource provisioning, system recovery from catastrophic anomalies, and inter-layer/inter-domain protocols)

  • reliability (robustness, trust, and security).

I have received funding in excess of $1.5M from the US Department of State, Funds National de la Researche Luxembourg (FNR), and Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan.

My work has appeared in over 100 publications in venues, such as TPDS, TKDE, JPDC, IEEE Communications Letters, IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, ACM/Springer Mobile Networks and Applications, Journal of Supercomputing, GreenCom, IPDPS, GlobeCom, ICPP, ICPADS, VTC, MILCOM, ScalCom, OFC/NFOEC, HPCS, and HONET.

I am associate editor of Cluster Computing (Springer), Security and Communication Networks (Wiley), and International Journal of Communication Systems (Wiley).

I am chair of the steering committee of the IEEE Technical Area of Green Computing and a member of the IEEE Technical Committee on Self-Organized Distributed and Pervasive Systems.

I actively participate in outreach activities for K12, such as NATURE and STEM Kids programs.

I am classified as domain expert for several agencies, such as Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR), Omani Research Council (TRC), and the Dutch Science Foundations (NWO and STW).

I am the recipient of the NDSU CEA Research of the Year Award, ACM/IEEE GreenCom Best Paper Award, Nortel Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award, and John Schuchman Memorial Outstanding Doctoral Student Award.

I also am a ΥΠΕ.

See my biography and vitae for further details.
